GIGC美食人生俱樂部介紹/Spotlight on GIGC Club
GIGC(Gordon's International Gourmet Club; GIGC) Club is founded by th D67 Honorary PR, Gordon Brooks. It is one of the many non-profit English activities for the promotion of international friendship, good food and good English speaking friends. It is in memory of the loving, caring, and sharing that Gordon's American adopted father, Joe Brooks. The GIGC regular meeting is held at a well-known restaurant in Taipei city, the Tandoor Indian Restaurant.
Honestly speaking, I am not a “gourmet” , so good food doesn't make it attractive for me to join such a gathering. However, good friendship dose!
This luncheon is actually held for another reason; Gordon would like to honor "my contribution"(ha....) to those PR works I have done for D
Gordon is one of the respected Toastmasters whom I appreciate deep down in my heart. He is a person who is passionate, generous, and enjoys life in all dimensions. You can simply tell from those meetings, events, and conventions he attends. He is always the one who laughs hard, is supportive to the speaker at the stage, holds the beautiful lady at his arm, and dances happily at the ball. Isn’t he lovely?
What impresses me the most is he is truly sensitive to those people around him. He cares about their needs and feelings. He always says that Toastmasters provides us to do the right thing at the right time with the right people. I totally agree with him and see he carry out that motto into to the ultimate.
To my surprise, there are 18 people to join this gathering. Some of them are Toastmasters, but some are not. Gordon shared with me that he once successfully matched several couples through this club. This is one of the “functions” that GIGC club offers for people in addition to the English practice, and social opportunities with a variety of people.
I met several non-Toastmasters in this luncheon. Let's take a look of who they are.
John Dankowski, the Communicator of NASA, whom you might listen to his speech recently in some Toastmasters meetings. He can speak very well Chinese and Taiwanese. Amazing!
Richard Lee, the Contract Manager of Marubeni Corporation Transpiration Project Branch, which is a Japanese company, however, he is from Malaysia. He is keen to get to make friends with Taiwanse Toastmasters during his half-year stay in Taipei. He can also speak Chinese and other 4 kinds of languages. Richard has planned to visit different Toastmasters clubs, so when he shows up in your meeting, don’t get surprised!
Sophie Lei, a freelancer of website design. She impresses me as she never stops learning English though she is a housewife for years.
Frejya Liang, an English teacher with 6 years experience. She is looking for advanced learning opportunities in Toastmasters. I shared with her that many people’s life has been changed ever since they decided to join Toastmasters. She made the right choice to the right place!
And also Mei Wang, a pretty lady who works for a ravel agency as a Manager. She used to be a journalist responsible for the travelling beat.
They are the people I didn’t meet in our Toastmasters meeting however in GIGC club.
GIGC Club is held at Tandoor Indian Restaurant, which is located at No. 10, Lane 73, He Chiang,
